SOFTFLOW DESIGNS SOFTFLOW airjets have less mass than POWERFLOW jets, so they diffuse quickly. The area of noticeable air movement typically ranges from 2 - 10' beyond the diffuser. These smaller jets are also very efficient at entrapping air, and SOFTFLOW diffusers mix air efficiently over broad areas with little noticeable air movement. SOFTFLOW designs are used when it is necessary to reduce air jet turbulence or the area of significant air movement. People comfort or sensitive processes are typical considerations. The methodology of designing SOFTFLOW air diffusion systems is basically the same as POWERFLOW. Both static pressure and airjet port diameter are particularly critical to meeting air system objectives. SOFTFLOW designs are most effective when diffuser static pressure is .5" WG or less, and air velocity at the diffuser inlet is under 1500 FPM. FLOW/CON Fabric Air Diffusers heat and cool the Henry Ford Museum. They are made of a lightweight, flame retardant polyester fabric that matches the interior color. Lightweight is critical because the structure's roof has limited load bearing capacity. There are 16 SOFTFLOW diffusers, each 360' long. They are designed to mix air evenly, throughout the museum, without condensation. The diffusers are pressurized and discharge airjets through the small ports. Each diffuser has over 3000 ports, with several different port diameters at several different angles. The airjets are directed downward, but diffuse before reaching head level. In summer, the museum, is cooled without drafts. In winter, warm airjets provide comfort by entrapping the air at floor level. |
